Scotiabank American Express Gold Introduction
The Scotiabank American Express Gold card has been revamped recently by Scotiabank and the card has some great new benefits. This card has never really been on my radar other than a select few promotions, which even those weren’t good enough to make me apply. With the revamped offer though, it is finally on my radar.
What is Drop?
Drop is an app that allow you to earn rewards on the spending that you do at certain businesses. You connect your credit and/or debit cards to the Drop app by signing into your online credit/debit account securely and the app tracks your transactions. Whenever you make a transaction at one of the businesses listed on the Drop app, you earn points. Points are awarded at a fixed rate per $1 spent or at a fixed point amount per purchase. Using these points, you can redeem them for gift cards.
Some gift card redemption locations include Tim Horton’s, Starbucks, Uber Eats, Cineplex, Lululemon, and Air Canada. There are tons more and you are sure to find a useful redemption for you points. 1,000 Drop points equals $1 towards a gift card redemption.
Scotiabank American Express Gold Card Drop Offer
In the past, the usual offer for the Scotiabank American Express Gold Card was 75,000 points, but currently the offer has been increased to 150,000 points, equal to a $150 return. This is much better than the $75 Great Canadian Rebates offer for the same card. I found the mobile application to be easier to fill out, so if you’re on a desktop computer, open the links up on mobile.
Scotiabank American Express Gold Card Details
Ijaaz wrote an article about the changes to the Scotia Bank Gold American Express Card already, so I will keep this brief.
Earn 5x points on the following purchases:
Eligible grocery stores, restaurants, fast food, and drinking establishments. Includes popular food delivery and food subscriptions.
Eligible entertainment purchases. Includes movies, theatre, and ticket agencies.
Earn 3x points on the following purchases:
Eligible gas and daily transit. Includes rideshare, buses, taxis, subway, and more.
Eligible select streaming services. Including Netflix, Spotify, and more.
Earn 1x points on all other purchases.
This is a really great change, especially in the food and grocery category as the famous American Express Cobalt card, which also offers 5x points on food and grocery related purchases, is going through some changes of its own later this month. The biggest one being the 5x points being capped at $30,000 spend and going to 1x points after that. The Scotiabank American Express Gold card offers 5x points on the first $50,000 spent in food and grocery categories so between the 2 cards you should be good for the year at $80,000 spend unless you eat out a lot. Like a lot a lot.
Other features of the Scotiabank American Express Gold Card include:
25,000 points after spending $1,000 in the first 3 months
5,000 points after spending $10,000 in the first year
No foreign transaction fees
Priority Pass unlimited membership
Access to Amex Offer, American Express Front of the Line, and American Express Invites
There is a $120 annual fee, but that is essentially negated by the welcome bonus and Drop points will net you $330 in value from the card assuming you spend $10,000 on the card in the first year.
Scotiabank American Express Gold Card Drop Offer Bottom Line
This new Drop offer is the thing to finally draw me in to apply for this card. The benefits have never been superior to any other card in my wallet, but between the 5x points offer and this new Drop offer, I’m sold. This is the best Drop offer I’ve ever seen and I encourage those that are interested in the card to take advantage of this offer.
Are you taking advantage of the Drop offer for the new Scotiabank American Express Gold Card?
